Gato Mikio Shoten exhibited the "Bon Bon Sound" wooden stereo speaker at the Spring 2009 Tokyo International Gift Show. The speakers are made using the traditional Japanese artistic techniques used to create the famous Yamanaka lacquer ware in Ishikawa Prefecture. This compact full-range speaker, which can fit in the palm of your hand, features a lacquer coated, wooden enclosure that is spherical in shape. The materials that are used include Japanese zelkova, which is an elm-like tree, and when the finished product is coated with lacquer and such, it projects a feeling of warmth that comes from using different types of fine quality woods as well as the luxurious image of Japanese inspired crafts. With this design, the speaker projects rich sound including radiantly lucid treble range sounds, firm midrange sounds, and warm bass sounds. The speakers, which are built-to-order in sets of two, come in a Paulownia wood box and cost 105,000 yen per pair. The speakers are shipped approximately a month and a half after the order is placed.
