Mongolia - The Caravan, episode 1 | Awakening in a strange world 1/4

May 2005: The beginning of a strange world. Twelve Germans land at the airport of Ulan Bator. From 4177 candidates, they were selected for two trading caravans through Mongolia. Six participants start the adventure with their seven Mongolian companions and 15 camels to the Gobi Desert.


Objective Karakorum

In the north, close to the Russian border, the second caravan starts its journey. Two caravans will travel 750 km and spending more than 20 miles daily on the road is not uncommon. In the hot sun of the Gobi is particularly hard. Life as a nomad, living in the group.

For all - Mongolians and Germans - are beginning their journey together to learn a lot. Another is very important which is trade. Both caravans were stocked with typical products: leather boots and silk, wood saddles and soap. Everything has to be exchanged in the course of the trip for food until the big goal to be achieved, Karakorum, Genghis Khan's fabled city.
