My review of Eternal Sonata (or Trusty Bell if you're Japanese), a great JRPG, featuring Chopin.

This ten minute time limit is a huge pain, as you might be able to tell, I had to do some editing to get everything down. There are a few game mechanics I couldn't touch on, and I talked for a minute on the use of Chopin as a character.

  • hello, I'm really interested in this game.. My question is, does this game have an easy difficulty? like Red Dead Redemption. The reason is , I usually start on very easy or easy so when I finish, I could go to a harder level. Basically is this game challenging but not annoyingly hard like Fallout 3 l.o.l. gratsi

  • @mpresev When you first start the game there is only one difficulty, but its actually pretty easy and doesn't really become challenging until about 15-20 hours in. there's no easy mode really, but I think I only got a game over screen once or twice. If you start a second game after you beat it, you play encore mode, which is the harder difficulty, and is actually quite challenging even at the beginning.

  • acually, there are light and dark things. if you get an enemy into light it may change.

and also if you use quick characters like falsetto, allegretto or viola, build up your echo points and then use a special attack that hits like 8 times, with an additional 8-16 from viola and her healing ability your going to do fairly good.

besides if you use polka's blossom heal at lvl 50 or something its already quite good, and useful for the last two bosses.

  • I've played through the entire game, including the bonus dungeon, and I had little need for Polka's healing skills for most of the game, aka, the parts where your not required to play as her. I used falsetto and Jazz most of the game for quick combos and damage. I didn't mention the light dark mechanic A because I was pressed for time and B it really didn't strike me as a selling point.

We all have a opinion, but this game was aimed at children.

  • shame on you.. a fully grown man shouldn't praise such a gay game. many things were great (fighting , graphics) .. but are you gonna tell me that you liked the story or the sappy little snot nosed characters? i skipped all cut scenes and muted the speech volume to keep my sanity.. these faggy "tee hee!" styled rpg's need to end. i want dark and mature rpgs. not this twinkle toe bullshit.

  • any spoilers

  • why does it seem namco is the only developer that does non random encounter games. sqaure and other companies get off your asses and stop useing random encounters they are not fun.

  • good review

  • I used to think this game is one of the easiest RPGs I've played and yes I am also including MU.

However... My opinion completley changed about Eternal Sonata after I cleared the game once and decided to play Encore mode to rack up the remaining 700 gamerscore. I did play Encore mode though up till' about Fort Fermata

and I swear I just could'nt do it. It was just to damn hard.

So yeah maybe the storyline is geared towards a younger audience but believe me this game is F*kin hard on Encore.
