What if the car that would back up is five cars ahead of the space policing the whole street? Does he have a claim on any spot that opens up? This happened to me once. There was a car about five car s up the street. Of course I got the space, but the immigrant in the other car was furious and threatened me, to no avail of course because I wrote down his number and told him if anything happened to my car I'd call the police.

I would only say George was right if he had his blinkers on or had been closer to the spot; the other guy had every reason to believe it was free, and if he had the room to pull in head first he should have taken it.

pulling head first is totally acceptable, backing up is only necessary if a head first park is not possible
