Alameda Point - Escape Clause is Coming to Town

A Christmas carol dedicated to the Alameda Point ballot initiative called Measure B that will appear on the February 2, 2010 ballot in Alameda, CA. Alameda Point is the site of the former Naval Air Station - Alameda. Measure B is a 280-page set of documents containing a Development Agreement that is financially unfavorable to Alameda. Numerous clauses allow the developer to "escape" adequately funding the project and shift financial burdens from the developer to the redevelopment district, leaving Alameda taxpayers vulnerable to future public service burdens for a lagging, incomplete, dysfunctional or abandoned project. The biggest escape clause: "Nothing in this Development Agreement is intended to create any affirmative development obligations to develop the Alameda Point Project at all or in any particular order or manner, or liability in Developer under this Development Agreement if the development fails to occur." Vote "No" on February 2, 2010.
