This scene has tremendous pathos because we all remember a girl from school that we never forget.

It's simply a wonderful movie.
But with John Ford involved, that's hardly a surprise.

Lucky break for us. The single greatest genius to ever make films in America.
But as I recall, the Irish didn't do so bad in his films, either, even with the misfortune of Ford's birth away from the Old Sod.
