Before the 1975 matchup, Penn State was 4-0 against the Buckeyes (1912, 1956, 1963 and 1964) with the the last three encounters featuring Nittany Lion upsets of the decided Buckeye favorites. To make matters worse, all four games were in Columbus. After the 1912 game, a fan summarized the fiasco (37-0 loss) by saying that no game will ever again be scheduled between the two.
However, the Buckeyes finally broke through in 1975 on the heels of a punishing ground game featuring Pete f'n Johnson, Corny Greene, Brian f'n Baschnagel and Archie Griffin, the then-one-time Heisman winner. In this play, Baschnagel and Johnson get the game started with a quick TD score to put the Bucks up 7-0 with less than 12 minutes left in the first quarter. The Buckeyes eventually won 17-9, their first victory over the Nittany Lions
