Total Carnage is a game licensed to Carl Forhan of Songbird Productions for the Atari Jaguar.
Think of Smash TV and then think of more blood and you've got Total Carnage :-)
This was released well after the Jaguar's commercial shelf life and I'm just glad people are still creating and producing games for it. This obviously isn't a title that can show what the Jaguar can do, but it's one to add to its library. The game is fairly difficult, in my opinion. This video was taken during my 2nd play session, so I had become a little better. The idea is the same as Smash TV, though, so you get the idea.
The only thing that would make this game is some sort of a custom controller to make better use of the firing mechanics.
If you are holding down the fire button and hit a different direction on the directional pad, you'll simply move in that direction -- NOT fire in the new direction. That makes it a little tricky.
Someone could come up with a custom controller, though, because using the numpad you can actually fire in the different directions independent of what you're doing on the directional pad.
You'd only need to map numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 & 9 to some sort of directional thumpad or something for your right hand and continue using a directional pad for movement with your left hand.
I may give it a try one of these days -- try to mock something up. I bet it would GREATLY enhance gameplay for this game.

  • IS this some kind of homebrew title for the Jaguar? Do you play this through an emulator, or on the avtual console... I could swear the amiga version looket a LOT better...?

  • It's basically a beta, but has been toyed and tinkered with so you could play through it.

I would guess some things would have been improved if the game had officially been released by the original developers.

  • -Is it really too hard to put some music during gameplay for 64 -bit games console?

  • To be fair, this game isn't a completely finished work.

It was modified to run and be somewhat complete, but it wasn't "finished" by the original coding team.

  • Is there no music in this port?

  • they sure did change the sound effects alot. At least they didn't dumb down the violence

  • This game in particular is still sold by Songbird Productions. Google 'Total Carnage Jaguar" and you shouldn't have any trouble finding this. It's still available.

It's an incomplete product because it was a dropped project. It was never intended to be released, so Songbird Productions legally obtained the code and made a releasable version of the game to be enjoyed by Jaguar fans.

Also, this game does take advantage of the Pro controller, and is only playable without hand cramps with it.

  • Do you own a Jaguar? If so, were do you get all these rare games and betas?

  • reminds me of Ikari Warriors

  • why not? why sell a incomplete product?

  • looks like 1st gen Genesis :(
