PRISON OVERCROWDING IN CALIFORNIA NORTH KERN STATE PRISON

NORTH KERN STATE PRISON, California. In August 55 inmates were injured and a dormitory burned down in a prison riot in Chino, one hour West of Los Angeles. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger blamed it on overcrowding. That same month, a federal judicial panel, describing conditions as "woefully and constitutionally inadequate," ordered the state of California to reduce its 170,000 prison population, double its capacity by 40,000 inmates. Now, the Golden State is facing a perfect storm of problems surrounding its system of incarceration, the largest in the nation: a federal lawsuit and a fiscal crisis crippling its economy. As the budget shrinks, prison spending continues to swell as inmate populations grow. Last year Californias overcrowded and underserved jails cost the state about $10 billion, a price which it can no longer afford to pay.

I am Leon's ex-wife. Just visited. Took his 8yr. old grand girl to c him for the 1st time in her life. He has implemented several programs at the prison, mentors youth and intercedes between guards and prisoners, earned 2 degrees. REHABILITATED is the word. He now has something to offer society and society would be better served with him out possibly helping to keep some of these youths from ever going where he is. 13 years is enough. The 3 strike law was a disaster. Look at the results.

There is an ex LAPD officer named Russell Mecano located at this prison. His CDCR number is AH8803. He was convicted of sex with a minor and having sex with a minor in exchange for not arresting her.

I met Benito at Delano in A Yard, Building 1. I attended church with him and he helped through my time there. He is a prime example of a person who has been rehabilitated. God Bless you bro, you, your family and the rest of the brothers in faith who are still bound by those walls. My prayers are always with you.
