My final for Intro to Video. My teacher really disliked my handheld camera work in my first class tape, which I blame on the stupid DVX-100 that the school rented me. That camera is just too goddamn difficult to become accustomed to quickly. I wanted to show him that I was capable of handheld camera work that, frankly, wasn't shit.
I originally was going to shoot a 7-10 minute comedy sketch, but couldn't find enough actors to get it done in time. Almost at the last moment possible, I had this idea. I decided to look through the folders of still photos I had taken over my first 3 months in Philadelphia. I wanted to shoot video versions of my favorite pictures.
I really gave the JVC HD-110 a workout here. It was incredibly cold, to the point that the head of my fluid tripod was barely movable. I had to shoot handheld, but I didn't mind, because I adore handheld camera work. It was hard to get the depth of field that I really wanted without ruining the color of the out-of-focus elements of each image, but I mostly got around all the problems I encountered.
I'd like to thank my Intro to Video teacher, Link Harper, for being a crazy, fascinating old man. After nearly every class, he and I would be the last two people in the classroom, talking about f/1.0 lenses one week, and wireless microphones the next, which was bizarre because our class ran from 6 to 10 PM. He is an infinitely interesting character with a broad knowledge of and a true love for video. I wish he would teach other classes at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. I will miss being his student.
Once again, the song was written by Chris Gassan. I've been blessed to meet someone so talented, and because of him, I don't think I'll ever run into problems where I won't have music for a particular video, and therefore I will never have copyright issues with the soundtracks of my short films. I thank him deeply for all that he's done, and hope that we can keep working together for a long time.
Thanks for watching my videos, and I hope you continue checking out my page. I'm off for my Christmas break now. See you in about a month!
