The Ohio State University Athletic Band (NOT the marching band!!!) performs the one , the only Script Ohio on the court at halftime of the OSU Wisconsin basketball game on February 25, 2007. I play the bass drum, however due to how many we have I didn't march and I had the opportunity to record this video. I apologize for the poor quality, the original video is superb but due to compression required to fit the video online something had to be sacrificed.

  • I was at the OSU-Washington women's volleyball sweet 16 matchup last year in Seattle, and the band came. I sat behind them and asked if they could do Script, and they told me that's strictly a marching band activity (i.e. not allowed). Is that true, did they change the policy, or did the marching band make a special appearance? Go Bucks!

  • That is true and untrue at the same time. Only the OSU Marching Band is allowed to actually script out Script Ohio...notice how we scattered letter by letter....The marching band only does football and other very special events..the athletic band does every other sport, including basketball and hockey where you will see the athletic band do script on ice twice a year, and now hopefully script on court once a year..maybe more with the fan response I have been getting...almost 6000 views already

  • There is no doubt that this is STILL the best college band tradition ever. No matter if its on the field, court or ice, Script Ohio is always INCOMPRABLE! And no It's definately more than follow the leader. Its precision spacing, movements and execution. As a proud alumni in TBDBITL Class '05 there is and will never be any other single thing that fills me with OSU pride than seeing the finest 225 in the land! Go Bucks! OH-IO

  • Everyone watching this, keep in mind it was the VERY FIRST EVER Script Ohio at a basketball game. A piece of history!

  • @skiman645

Just curious, but why is the marching band only allowed to do the actual script of Script Ohio? Is it like a law or something?

  • Put 30 clarinets next to five trumpets and let me know how many woodwinds you hear. Useless instrument for a marching band, they just do it to be PC for the non-brass/percussion instrument players.

  • Because OSU doesn't have flutes or colorguard. 'nuff said

  • @bellapop79 OSU sounds tinny because they don't have woodwinds? Lol.

  • Agreed shwn. In fact, we do play significantly louder than any other band I've met, but we make it sound better. It's not just blasting. And, bella, your "better mix" only involves woodwinds, as that's the only difference between the OSUMB and the 110, and, if everyone is playing correctly, they're literally impossible to hear. And if you really don't think the crowd/team/everyone in the stadium enjoys/ gets pumped up by the OSUMB, you are sadly mistaken.

  • That's because you know nothing. Quality versus Quantity. Even though the 110 has less people, they still over play everything. Ohio State could play 10x as loud as the 110 if they wanted to.

  • @Iololz

i wasnt looking for someone to state whether i am wrong or not...i am saying the fact that this has been done so many times over....it gets a little stale after a while...ou band has a better mix of instruments, INCLUDING woodwinds (clarinets,saxophones)....hence, osu tends to sound a little too "tinny" for my liking...ou always does something fresh, something new, something different..they dance, they get the crowd rowdy...

  • A few things wrong with your statement, Bella. First, "exciting" does'nt translate to "precision" drill. I assure you, this is not the most complicated thing the OSUMB does(and, not to put down any A band member, but this isn't a real Script Ohio), but it isn't anywhere near as simple as people seem to think it is. Just to humor you, I checked out the Tennesse drill. It's actually not hard. Most is simple 8 to 5, and some spinning circles. On the 110 statement...you must have never heard play.

  • fyi, there have been DCI drummers who HAVE NOT made OSU's marching band.....thank you. And that is coming from someone who appreciates both equally.

  • tradition, my friend, is something that only grows stronger over time. so maybe it seems boring to you as someone who's not part of the tradition, but you also must respect it for what it is and what it has been.
