From the H1N1 to a regional food borne outbreak, information technology can be used to predict the likelihood of a disease occurrence will result in an outbreak. Utilizing syndromic surveillance methods it is possible to provide early warning indicators to support preparedness and response within communities. New Hampshire is one state that has implemented a state-of-the-art surveillance system which is providing valuable real time information to state health professionals.
