what you're saying makes sense; i guess i'm just too vain to want a watch that doesn't clearly LOOK like it's worth several thousand dollars. i appreciate the prestige of fine craftsmanship, but at the end of the day, a ferrari enzo as an expensive car, or in a classier league, a bentley, LOOKS just as good as it performs.

If that watch was all stainless steel (I never liked two-tone) and had a different dial I would really like it, but I don't like it much the way it is.

An Ebel Voyager was one of the first nice watches I purchased. I hated the bracelet. No matter how I took links out, or put them back, I could not get this thing to set on my wrist proplerly. Overall I thought it to be a decent watch and pretty practical if you can figure out which countries have daylight savings time and when they are having it. No doubt that these watches can be picked up for bargain prices. I bought mine new in 2000 for $900 in all stainless.

Wow! I can't believe I'm seeing someone reviewing an Ebel watch!
The orange 1911 Discovery Chrono is really nice. Not in-house mov't but still very nicely finishing case and detailing.
I like the Ebel watches esp. the BTRs and the new discovery line because they have a very distinct look.
But you are absolutely right about the strap thing.

@null140 not surprised.. to the uninformed, most expensive watches don't look anything special as the quality is very understated and only appreciated by the true connoisseur. All most people know what to look for is the "Rolex" logo and if it doesn't have one they have no idea.
