http://www.ted.com In a culture where being social and outgoing are prized above all else, it can be difficult, even shameful, to be an introvert. But, as Susan Cain argues in this passionate talk, introverts bring extraordinary talents and abilities to the world, and should be encouraged and celebrated.
TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the "Sixth Sense" wearable tech, and "Lost" producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at http://www.ted.com/translate

I'm very much an introvert,I enjoy being alone but at times I'm awkward in social settings.. But I'm not shy,I'm very much a talkative person ,just rather be in my comfort zone to think clearly.

I was actually going to ask you if anyone had asked you why you don't join in, and also what you say if they do ask? I used to make excuses as to why I couldn't join in but after discovering a few years ago the true definition of introversion, and realising that there were other people like me, I stopped making excuses and started explaining the differences between introverts and extroverts. I've found other introverts this way, and the extroverts I've told are slowly starting to get it.

Thats definatively not what she said. Its about coexistence and mutual respect between the two.

Why can´t you explain it to her? Being an introvert does not make you mute. Try to explain to and show her what you are doing and why you are doing it and maybe she´ll understand. If you wont give her the reason for why you are staying in, why is she the idiot for thinking you may be lazy or unhappy?

Excellent Talk! It is interesting that authentic self may truly be an introvert, but a work persona may be extrovert by necessity.

I am 17. I spend most of the time in my room doing computer programming. My mom says I am the most idiot person ever, I spend my time in my room. I should go out for movies with my friends. and the sad part is that I cant explain her that I am making a app that I can sell and earn money. Being an Introvert among idiots really hurts.
