Japanese General Toshio Tamogami of the Japanese Air Force (ASDF Air Self-Defense Force) wrote an essay titled, Was Japan an Aggressor Nation.

In this essay General Tamogami offers the opinion that the actions in Asia during and before World War Two were not due to Japanese aggression and that the attack upon Pearl Harbor, Japan was tricked into it by United States President Franklyn Roosevelt.

This video does not address the Asian aspect of Japanese activities as it does address the Pearl Harbor part of the essay.

This essay caused stern criticism from China and South Korea. It also caused General Tamogami to lose his position. Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso dismissed the General from his position

Please understand this video makes no attempt to address or absolve any nation of atrocities committed during World War Two.

  • I am Indonesian people.

Do not think about the history partially.

After China had been defeated in the opium war, Japan felt the sense of crisis.

Therefore, having made it to militarism is right.

To press the modernization to China, and to oppose Europe and America, Japan advanced it.

However, China did not cause the reform. This might give impetus to the advancement of Japan to China. I think that it gets along well that United States and Japan very of the history.

  • I like some things,

  • Japanese are generally liked and thanked in Asia for successfully kicking the Europeans and Americans (the then imperialists who were colonising and treating like shit the people of those countries for centuries).

So when Chinese and Koreans say "Asians hate Japs" you got to remember only Koreans and Chinese hate the Japanese. lol

Another mistake... a lot of people believe that Japan invaded Korea in a war. There never was a war with Korea.

  • Long before the Pearl Harbor Attack,U.S.had the plan to destroy Japan for donnating the Chinese market. The War Plann Orange started in 1897.The books,"Bankrupting the Enemy" and "War Plan Orange" written by Edward S. Miller offer detailed about it.

  • The British intelligence thought that Japan would not risk its life by attacking the US as long as Japan kept having oil and natural resources.

Douglas MacAuthor said, "Japan's attack was dictated by security"

  • Your question: did you have to walk into the trap?

An answer to this question is

When your house is on fire and there is a trap at the exit of your house, what would you do?

FDR could NOT have expected that Japan could reach Pearl Harbour. Perhaps he thought Japan would attack somewhere in the Phillipines.

  • FDR told his friend not to take the Pacific flight because there would be a war in the Pacific way before December 1941.

Japan was runniong out of oil, and the validiy of the Hull note was only 3months. That is, even if Japan had withdrawn from Vietnam, the US could have stopped sending oil to Japan anyway. I am not sure about your claim that the US does not want any mess in Asia. Eastern Asia was COLONIES OF EUROPE BY THE WAY.

  • FDR kept selling oil and natural resources even after the war between China and Japan. FDR stopped selling oil to Japan was only when Japan's army moved to Vietnam, which was next to the US colony the Phillipines.

  • You are basically right. Have you read work on this by Dr. Marc Trachtenberg? FDR had pressure for an incident after the German invasion of the USSR. We knew sooner or later we would get involved, but its hard to sell pre-emptive war (Iraq case in point)...with the invasion of Russia we felt Germany would become a hegemon that would eventually come after the U.S. Again, there is a lot of info on this. U.S. Ambassador Grew felt we were forming a trap too.

  • Interestingly, President Roosevelt was surrounded by around 300 spies from Soviet within his government at that time. Also, Hull Note was written by Soviet spy, this direcly led to the WWII.

  • by the way

do u even know when the USA invaded Iraq?? what year??

do you know what country owned the line Lusitania??? Do you know why the japanese attacked pearl harbor?? do you know what sort of planes were used in the attack? do you know that the ships are still there? do you know how many incidents there were in the gulf of tokin? do you know wha the aftermath was?? do you know how the towers collapsed?? do you want to debate with me? because if u do i will make u cry to your mommy....
