they used dry wall mud, plaster. There is better stuff out there, it works better sands better takes gel coat primer better and then there is a top coat, And if the plug is right and the primer is sanded right the top coat will not need sanding. Just a buff and wax for the molds.

ah you built the body plug on the chassis.
is it right that you have no videos of going from styrofoam and adding filler and finishing the plug surface? if not how did you? just spray on body filler, sand, top coat paint and wet sand?

What did you coat the plug with to get a good final coat for your new mould?

I saw you destroying your plug, I noticed planks of wood/ Ply Wood placed at different intervals in your plug. did you use them to measure, those plywood boards. Actually what I wanted to ask was that, did you use slices from your CAD to get a precise measurement for these slices so that the plug be perfect?

I make other vintage promotional car bodies using original molds of the 50s and 60s but I have never made one from a plug (or made a plug) check my videos to see what I am talking about or go to my page 3Ws dot JRCENTRAL dot C0M

What did you use over the top of the frame to build the plug? I need to recreate a 1958 Desoto Firemite 3/8 scale promo car body using the broken up remains of the original I own for a pattern guide. I was thinking closed cell foam board to make the base form then coats of bondo to smooth every thing out followed by coats of primer and paint to make it glass smooth before making the final mold from the plug.
why did you bust it???

I had to bust it up to get my car back. See, I built the plug on top of the chassis, then I made molds out of fiberglass. When I pulled the molds off the plug, the plug had to be destroyed to get the car back out. Then I made a new body from the molds. Look at my other videos to see more!
