TSG171: Absence of Gender

How might a person react when they are blocked from determining someone's gender? Is that morally ok or even cruel to interrupt one's natural instinct to find a mate, i.e., taking away a mouse's ability to find the cheese? -Beth

You do have to teach your child, but apart from teaching not to be nasty, you can let them grow their own natural character, including with respect to gender. If a little boy plays with barbies should you really take them away and say, 'No, those are for girls?' Though I knew my gender, I was brought up in a gender neutral way, hardly knew how male and female behaviour differed, and I'm not complaining. I wouldn't want to have my childhood changed to one where I was forced into a gender mould.

It would be nice if we only built societal beliefs from simply observing what if different than ourselves and similar... not necessarily following popular opinion.

I guess in the end its all up for interpretation. They physicality of genitalia (or lack of) and the subjectivity of what gender means.
