Rezko also arranged for contractors to remodel the basement of Monk's Park Ridge home in 2005, according to Monk.

He was already doing pretty much anything Rezko asked him to do and, according to Monk, Rezko never asked him for anything in particular for the cash; neither did Rezko indicate that he expected to be paid back.

Monk also discussed the influence that fundraisers Chris Kelly and Tony Rezko had on appointments to various state boards and commissions.

Monk said that when Blagojevich took office, he had the power to fill thousands of positions on those boards and commissions. Kelly and Rezko had a great deal of influence over which candidates were selected.

"They had to donate money if they were going to be in these spots," Monk said.
