The Gripen NG uses a modified version
of the GE F414! With an Afterburner
constructed by Volvo Aero.
"Todays" Gripens uses a modified version
of the GE F404 (called RM12),
but it also has an Afterburner
constructed by Volvo Aero.

unfortunatly, gripen loose...end of the indian story, and maybe end of the gripen production...

@Exverlobter it wasn't my point, i've read some people at SAAB said that to continue in the fighter aircraft industry, they needed more sall, or they will stop...but there's no date and no more info.

"End of Gripen Production"???
Saab has sold more Gripens than Dassault has sold Rafales. No Rafales have been sold until now. The Gripen is a success

I think it would be a good choice for India :) Nice plane too
-
@styleraju correctly said i think planes will buy more diplomacy points than actually enhance the tech..
-
@PassionateIndia it would be a big waste to throw 10+ billion on this plane that comes from a nation that has zero political power in the world. the plane that India should buy should not only get India a technology upgrade in terms of war technologies but also a means to buy powerful friends.
-
@Saffronwing1 Correct. Mine was only a consideration outside the technical context.

@geoago We have Tejas for that. Gripen may or may not win. Its biggest problem is limited range and limited payload compared to double engined fighters. Its best merit is its turn around time--10 mins of arming and fueling and its again in the air that too after landing on normal roads.
-
Why on earth didn't they find a pilot who could speak English properly?
Gripen is an underdog. Don't take this plane lightly, because I feel its got good chances of winning this.
