they say that the audience didnt finally know it was u2 until later in the actual u2 show when bono sang lucille again... personally i think most of the audience figured it out before that! i mean u can see larry;s face fully the entire time.

i think the audience got the joke. given that the Dalton Brothers were more than likely not listed on the bill for the show, it helps to add to the, "what on Earth is this?!" effect. add to the fact that one of the members is called Alton Dalton, i'm sure the audience picked up on it immediately. in addition, i think in LA, where this was filmed, people would've had a laugh at taking the mick out of country and western, despite U2's appreciation of it.
