"Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence, a national youth movement protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies. My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is caused by harassment, prejudice, and discriminaton. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward fighting these injustices. Think about the voices you are not hearing today.

What are you going to do to end the silence?"

  • ha you pointed to the wrong side :]

But yeah ive missed it for the past three years because no one would tell me what it was, Thats what you get for going to and Overly Christian school... I'm definitely not missing it this year :]

  • your friends brain wasn't working correctly he should have been talking the short bus to school

  • "What are you going to do to end the silence?"

    Simple... mmmMMM-BAH!

  • NOBODY should ever have to suffer for being who they are. They should not have to conform to society and accept misery as a way of life. My belief is that this is the NEW Civil Rights movement, and I will do my best so that this comes out fair for everyone. And for those of you out there similar to ingodwetrust99, please take notice that we are using peace to solve our problems, it's god's way. And may i also draw your attention to something my pastor used to emphasize:WE ARE ALL GOD'S CHILDREN

  • ingodwetrust99, you're exactly the kind of person a day of silence was designed for.

  • aww man...

I saw some girls with white boards saying "im silent today for a purpose" a bunch of ppl joined them when they found out the purpose.

I never found out the purpose, but now I'm wishing I did and joined in on the cause.

I have friends that would be happy if I did this. Really regretting not contributing... :(

  • I don't know how I'll survive on Friday lol. It's a great way for teachers not to call out on you though. The only thing I don't get is why we're being silent with those that are silent. I thought the purpose would be something more like to speak up.

  • EmoRawz,

You should be able to attend school without being harassed but, as I explained, in my earlier post, that would be the case, in a perfect world.

Students are harassed for many reasons and public schools ought to remain diligent, in protecting all students.

My advice will seem cruel to you but it is good advice. Do not "act out" regarding your belief that you are a homosexual, in front of other teens. I have already explained why. You will put yourself in harms way.

  • Your friend did nothing wrong. The bullies that attacked him for his self expression were wrong.

There are people who would accepted and helped your friend if he'd have known how to contact them.

People should NOT be afraid of LGBT people. People should be tolerant of all types of people.
