After the fall of the tyrantical Qin empire, warlord Chu (Xiang Yu) battled with Liu Bang for supremacy over the new China. At first, victory for he mighty Chu seemed certain. But, fate was against him, and soon his once mighty armies collapsed and abandonded him. Surrounded by the armies of Liu, he seeks solace with his concubine,Yu Ji. True to the last, she chooses to comit suicide rather than be taken from her emperor. In this scene, the concubine Yu Ji trys to calm the lord Chu by entertaining him with a sword dance.

i think it is about the war between 项羽and his sworn brother刘邦。in those times ,虞姬is the great beauty who has fallen in love with 项羽。项羽was surrounded by 刘邦army.项羽chase虞姬and horse away.but none is willing to leave.虞姬does not wants to burden the troubled项羽that she used a dance as an excuse for her suicide. 项羽was killed the next day. his horse drain itself on its way to it homeland by jumping into the river.
