Elmo takes Big Bird's old role in mistaking the alphabet for a word and sings the classic tune that accompanies it. And this is the old good elmo when he had a gritty voice, and was actually entertaining instead of annoying. Look at the way he goes all cock-eyed with the "awfully queer" line!

From either 2987 or 2990.

  • Elmo stoles Big Bird's song

  • yeah, it was his song originally... though he seems to have completely forgotten about it twenty years later

  • This was a sign that Elmo would overtake Big Bird as the main character of the show! Agh! Poor Big Bird. : (

  • Big Bird Overtook this long before Elmo even tried.

This was just a clue that Elmo was going to dominate SS in later years; you could just tell lol...Btw...what was the deal with Preston? He was sure...a giving rabbit lol

  • @sweetlife031

I was just thinking that -- Big Bird never even acknowledged that he had the same situation 20 years before lol

  • You're telling me it never dawned on Big Bird that this was his song, first?

  • @hairsprayman111: Agreed. I mean, sure Snuffy & Bird sang the ditty that would become the "Elmo's World" theme when Elmo first wrote it, but still, stealing each other's signature themes?! What's next? Oscar singing "Being Green"? Oh wait...that happened, but at least Oscar had the nerve to give Kermit's anthem a Grouchy flair, whereas Elmo balatantly ripped off Big Bird here!

  • @Deanmo23 nope 2616 the music man parody look it up on muppet wiki

  • It's definitely from 2987.

  • All these comments saying this was a sign of Elmo's eventual take-over are funny... 'CUZ IT WAS TRUE!

  • This song spells out "2-3-4" in phone number code. Why? 2 corresponds to ABC, 3 is DEF and 4 is GHI. Then you have 5 for JKL, 6 for MNO, 7 for PQRS, 8 for TUV and finally 9 for WXYZ. So, the phone number which would correspond to the main lyric would be: "222-333-444-555-6667-777888-999."

To spell Caroll Spinney's first name in phone # code punch in "227655."
