This video of a flight demonstration of two Lockheed P-38 Lightnings flown as part of one of the monthly symposiums (first Saturday of each month) held at the Planes of Fame Museum at Chino Airport, California. The olive drab aircraft is the museum's very own P-38J Lightning "23 Skidoo." The silver P-38L ("Honey Bunny"), is owned by Allied Fighters and is also based at Chino Airport.
Graceful and smooth-sounding aircraft! The exhaust of the Allison V-1710 12-cylinder engines routed through the turbochargers to a single exhaust per engine accounts for that totally unique sound. Sweet.
Thanks!
My dad was crew chief on a P-38 (photo recon F-4 version). Loved to hear the stories...the whistle of the turbo...how his crew had to rebuild the engines after the pilots had to go to War Emergency power - breaking through the safety wires on the throttles to outrun Nazi fighters.
Two pilots flew his ship on rotation...50+ years later he still talked about the one that flew it great, and the other that he held his breath every time he took it up.
Simply - the most beautiful airplane ever.

Ps: Great sound too.. I must have missed the first upload, but I'm glad you reposted as it meant I could watch it now.. Would love to use parts of this video for my 1/72 Academy and Revell P-38 video building reviews which I hope to do in the summer this year, so I am asking politely already now, if I may.. please?? Full credit will of'course be given to you / your channel. Refusal will not cause offence but I'm hoping for a positive response.. :) :) Thank you.. :)
