Here is me playing the classic Ukranian Carol of the Bells on my new James Jones Dulcimer. The arrangement if by Bill Flanagan. As I only have one video camera I had to "Hammer Sync" to get multiple angles.

  • Hi ..so beautiful! I just got my hammered dulcimer from James Jones recently!...can't say I can do much more on it than tune it at this point! Do you have the arrangement for this song, or can you tell me where to get it! Thanks so much, you have inspired me to keep trying...so far I have been struggling, and have no teacher, just internet... Thanks

  • @msvivianrae13 you can definitely learn the hammered dulcimer from the internet, I did! Dizzi has many great instructional videos and I believe there's another man that offers lessons online. One tip - get a variable speed mp3 player, it will speed up the learning curve.

  • Great arrangement. Would it be playable on a 14/15 diatonic hammer dulcimer?

  • @drummingone Yes indeed. I originally learned it on a 15/16.

  • What kind of instrument is that?

  • @PlaidDalmatian It'sa chromatic hammer dulcimer. Hand made by a guy named James Jones in Virginia.

  • @flanorelli I'm flattered and humbled by your kind words. Players like you got me interested in the instrument to start with, so receiving a compliment from a player of your caliber means alot to me. Thanks so much!!

  • Wow... I just stumbled across this, and your playing is beautiful! One correction though... although I wrote out the arrangement, I learned most of the various parts from Evan Carawan in eastern Tennessee. So the arrangement is Evan's (I just strung the pieces together in a certain order). Really nice job with it!

    Well done!

  • ABSOLUTELY L*O*V*E THIS! My husband and I are familiar with Evan Carawan from 'Appalachian Stories: The Heartland Series' and have the Christmas episode where this song is performed; have found Bill Flanagan's version (we know it is based on Evan's arrangement;) and now this one by you ... wonderful! Thank you for sharing.

  • Okay, I KNOW that Christmas is over. . . but, as I listen to your playing, I'm starting next year's list. . .

  • very clever lovely sound
