Lathe - Steam Engine - Taking A Cut.mpg

This video is a model lathe driven by a model steam engine (driven by compressed air) The lathe is a model of an 1897 era lathe and is 6" long. The 4 jaw chuck is 1" diameter and the lathe has auto feed and working back gearing. The tool bit is 1/16" square. Sorry about the bluriness at the start. I had the camera too close. The loud noise at the end is the air compresser kicking in.

Thanks for the comment. The engine is running on compressed air and the noise at the end is the compressor starting up due to reduced air pressure. Too bad I didn't end the video a few seconds earlier.

Thanks for the comments. The lathe as well as the engine are PM research castings. I have another vid of this which shows a bit more but no motion. I will post this shortly.

Yes I made this model. I have a small shop in my house. I don't spend all my spare time there so it took about 2 years to build this.

Nice work ! I built a PM Horizontal boiler kit.....I wish I had a way to machine a engine kit like yours....check out my stationary Steam vids...
