  • This dude needs to make more faces, emphasize more words and use his hands more!

  • Done! And next time I'll do it all with a red clown nose, too!

  • I just had a brain blast... instead of a bailout... hows about the government sends out tax cuts to consumers who buy american made cars, then its far more direct to the cause and artifically creates demand without giving the money to the car company first. If there isn't any problems with the legality of this (which I'm sure there is) it seems pretty reasonale.

  • I think I've heard that idea somewhere before...

    but where?

  • Could we partially turn them into public transport producers or would that be too ambitious? If so they could restore that system they destroyed while also weathering the recession because the orders will come from the government give us energy independence, help us solve global warming and provide a big Keynesian stimulus to a depressed economy.

  • Oh, I missed this one. I'm all for public transport. love it. and they have the facilities to make the stuff... not a bad idea. No idea how it would work. Do you subsidize the big 3's initial investment in public transport? do you give the states money to buy it? avenue worth pursuing either way. I'm going to think on this.

  • These congressmen think they're so smart, but they can't even figure out that it's not gonna do any good to save the car companies if nobody can get a car loan.

    Hi Five to you, SCBlog!

And to everyone who owns a soon to be scrap metal on wheels, I tried to tell you. The bailout will not work the way they are doing it.

  • I've been pushing for the rebate plan. If you do a breakdown 15 million cars times $1000 rebate, equals $15 billion. I like the SCblog too however, too. Any bailout, should consist of getting production and sales going again, not simply handing them money to shutdown plants. That wouldn't help dealers, supplier and would put workers in the unemployment line.

I have a poll on this subject on my blog, just go to my channel and click on the link to my blog.

  • I agree with much of what you are saying, however I think that Toyota, Honda and other makers of U.S. cars should be included. I have my own plan which am responding with. Also, we will need to do something for foreign cars least we should be seen as protectionist. Let's keep this discussion going.

  • That makes total sense, and I see where you're coming from. But if the idea is to drum up business for the car companies in order to prevent them from going under, do we really care who buys the cars as long as they buy them? so the rich and well off decide to buy 3rd or 4th car. at least cars are selling.

And Im not positive on this, but Im pretty sure big spender luxury cars are more of a profit margin, so increasing sales on those cars would have a bigger effect per sale. I think.
