Here are a few autorotations in FS2004 with a MD-500 by a Hover Control member.

For thoese that don't know, a autorotation is a event when the helicopter looses power. The pilot basicly turns the helicopter into a autogyro. Useing the air friction to spin the rotor blades keeping the helicopter from crashing into the ground.

It took me about 2 weeks to get a helicopter in FS2004 to autorotate and Panther's helicopter is setup to do it by a damn good airfile.

Also I got a email saying that I wasn't autoing the helicopter, if you look on the dash you see a red light coming on, thats the Turbine Out Warning light, I would turn off the turbine.
Enjoy.

  • what airport?

  • oh Nice landing! and nice song!

What is the name of this song?

  • I use the HUD stick on top of my joystick or what ever that thing is, also make sure you in the virtual cockpit.

  • how do you rotate the camera inside the cockit? i can only rotate 90º

  • The blades will never stop turning if you have an engine failure during flight.

  • Well only if the blades stop :P you can loose the engine hehe

  • yep, thanks. so if you loose the engine and the blades stop you're screw :p

  • No, The rotor blades have to keep moving in Real Life and in Flight Sim. Learning how much pitch to put on the blade is the whole key to learning Autos. Too much and the blades Have to much drag and they stop, Not enough pitch and well you go right to the ground.

    Hope that answers your question.

  • can u do an autorotation when the engine stops and the blades stop turning??

  • The first autorotation was a crash lol
