great tip, Stan Utley has two books, buy them your short game will improve dramatically

This is a very rotary motion. I think this is also the reason he doesn't chicken-wing after impact. That's a linear motion. He seems to let the club close naturally.

@bunkerputt you should never close the club when you are chipping unless you wanna draw your chip.

Stan is a class act and has had real-world tour success. I followed his career when he was on the tour and remember seeing him paired with Nicklaus on Sunday on one occasion. He had good success on the Nike Tour as well. I'm glad he's gone to the trouble of passing on his knowledge to the rest of us.

Nice tip I like it! Can you please take a look at my sons chip shot at golfgamer88? I would really appreciate any comments. Thanks!

Mr. Utley's talent in the short game area is undisputed & as a golf professional I would say the most neglected part of most players game is the short game. An improvement in the short game is where players could improve their score the most. Mr. Utley is correct that rigid legs & body is not good. I would just make an addition to say the body motion needs to be a reaction to & in support of the swinging motion of the arms rather than a cause.

i think u're the idiot here...haven't questioned him, I agree he's maybe the best when it comes to short game but I still disagree in what high handicappers are concernd, and a lot of "gurus" do too. different opinions, not questioning anybody nor utley, obvious for everybody but for u.

This guy for real! seriously mate stan utley is the man when it comes to short game, it's fine your entitled to your opinion but i must say your wrong!

stan is a professional golfer... anyone who questions this guru is an idiot. He's a great teacher. keep it up stan!!!

Thanks Grayhawk - didn't realise you had close links to Stan! Would appreciate it if you put a pitching and bunker shot video on here. I'm a visual and kinestheitc learner so reading from a book doesn't always work with me.
Talking of the book (The Art of the Short Game), the coloured illustrations inbetween pages 46-47 are misleading. The 1st one is the chip shot but the 2nd illustrations:is that the pitch shot? There's no heading.
I bought Stan's book, The Art of the Short Game and I have been working on this chipping technique the past 6 weeks. I am now starting to achieve 40% + scramble rates and I'm a 17 handicapper. I use my 60 degree lob wedge for all my chips. Our club champ passed this on to me and he is a big advocate of Stan Uttley. Good luck to improving your short game.
