In part 2 of our How to humanely butcher a chicken series, we will clean (gut) the chicken and prepare them for quartering. Once you have done this a few times it should only take you 2-3 minutes to clean a bird!

  • Hello, How long do you have to wait to cook the bird? I heard that you have to wait 24hrs before eating because of the endorphins to leach out of the bird so it wont be tuff. Is this true?

  • @ar1961sc I have not heard that before. I have not noticed a difference though. In most cases though we are freezing or canning them and they are consumed at a much later date.

  • Great stuff, got a chicken to lay eggs for a year or 2, will it still be ok to eat after its 2 or 3 years old.

  • @idak12 Abbsolutly! I prefer to can the older chickens. They turn out much better.

  • Used this video to butcher my first chicken. Thanks!!

  • @DalahiaD Thats great to hear!

  • LOL "That's my chi-chi, mommy!"

Awesome, I want some chickens now.

  • You need a lot of practice really.

  • It is amazing how our society has become so inept at doing anything. Some tips for ya...1. learn how to sharpen a knife...2. Cute child but if you are gonna make a video get a sitter. 3. Keep practicing buddy.

  • You need a sharper and smaller knife. Back when I was a kid we would butcher a chicken every Sunday. I butchered them with a pocket knife in about two minutes and the dogs ate the scraps.

  • Thank you so much!! you make me feel like i can really do this ((tears))

  • nevermind! lol i watched the rest of the video. still curious about the tips though
