Jo Stafford is one of my favorite pop vocalists, but I respectfully suggest that Ella Fitzgerald really "owns" the vocal recording of "Midnight Sun."

Johnny Mercer is a lyricist and poet of the heart and his words have life. Jo Stafford is one of the greatest singers coming out of the 1940s. For another interpretatioon, listen to Nancy Wilson recording of Midnight Sun.

If this song does not establish Johnny Mercer as the poet laurete of 20th century America, nothing will.

A cigarette, a shot of Scotch, my feet up on the stool, and Jo in the background...suddenly everything is black and white again! 'Luv it !

A beautiful song from an era when music was music. Jo handles this not too easy to master song with ease. She was just great.
Thank you for sharing this gem.

This is a nice version. I still like June's one, perhaps the larger band gives it something extra.
Fortunately I was able to get a copy from the radio,
not good reproduction, but adequate.

I thought that I would never hear this song again, except in my heart, I wept? thank you so very much. Oh! and thanks to you too "YOU TUBE!"

Better than June? This is so good! Thanks so much.

This is a BITCH of a song to sing, with so many key changes, but it's "a day at the beach" for the super-talented Jo. You could try and teach Madonna to sing this for five YEARS and she'd never get past the first four bars. God, how the music biz has deteriorated....all geared to 14 year olds with too much spending money!
