Picher Oklahoma. Was a lead mining town until the Federal Government bought the town out. Lead poisening and arsenic makes it one of the most toxic places in the US!

  • bmcclure: wow, are you serious man?!.....I could see a horror flick happening here....YIKES!

  • Not entirely true! Yes, most businesses & homes HAVE been condemned (esp. after the tornado), but there are some that haven't, because there ARE still people living there (believe it or not)! They have been offered a buy-out, but have refused to accept it! They consider Picher to be their home & are refusing to leave!

  • I think i would have taken the buyout.....the levels of lead poisoning in the soil and in the water are dangerously high!

  • Spoookeeey. Question though why would they put "to be" condemned and not just red tag condem it right away, seems like one those wording tricks land grab thing hmmm

  • That is so sad. Now are there any photos of this place. I would take pictures of what was there. It seems eerie there. Does anybody even walk around there just to have a look around.

  • Brought you by the Corporate whores of America.(That's any of you who subscribed to this disaster and played a part in allowing it to happen)They're selling, you're buying, and at the cost of everything you own.You deserve what you get.Poetic Justice at it's finest. You sold your souls, now you've become this.A wasteland for the Sleople who never woke.

  • this place, right next to the chernobyl area, are now at the top of my DO NOT GO WITHIN 100 MILES OF list

  • @BASS01100 I read a story about this town in WIRED magazine, and the town is protected by the few faithful members of Picher left, armed with AR-15's. I'm pretty sure that alone is enough to not raid. Plus, I'm sure most of the store owners cleared out anything of worth from the stores.

  • My question is this, If the town is abandoned and the stores and buildings still contain supplies and valuable items, who is to stop people like these guys from just stopping in front of the old hardware store, knocking a window out and loading up with tools, feed, and whatever else they might need? I am sure the Oklahoma State Police patrol it but if no one lives there and no business are open and no one is around except for passing motorists then who is going to stop looters?

  • so this whole oh my the lead will kill u is bull ppl lived there for more than 30 years if it was gonna kill them it would have done it already

  • never hurt us before im from picher lmao the lead never hurt us some lived there our whole lives but it never affected us

  • @bmcclure0561dad...LMAO witches and satanists oh my you have a morbid imagination! Occult worship does not = a bunch of idiots dressed up in black drinking beer on a chatpile. The 'hundreds' of bodies actually is less than 20, and they were either the victims of death by misadventure (accidental) or murder victims whose bodies were disposed of down a mine shaft. Grow up! It's just a sad little ghost town. And yes, I'm from around there.

  • yeah, you're wrong. people do still live there.
