vintage synth demo by RetroSound

Oberheim OB-Xa 8-Voice Analog Synthesizer from the year 1980.

part1: some self-made and factory classic OB-Xa sounds (pads, brass, bass, sync-sounds and more)

The Oberheim OB-Xa is one of the greatest analog poly-synths ever. A classic! Van Halen`s powerfull Jump and 1984 Intro sound is the OB-Xa.

The sound character of the curtis chip based OB-Xa is very different to the early discrete and SEM based OB-X. The sound is harder and not so lush. Check my OB-X demo vids! But the OB-Xa sound is more raw, organic and warmer as the the later OB-8. The OB-Xa was available with 4, 6 or 8 voice cards.

Used by: Van Halen, Depeche Mode, Thompson Twins, Gary Numan, Rush, Prince, Vangelis, New Order and much more

  • Hey, I love your Synth demos. You make every synth sound wonderful..and this one is my favourite.

Btw, I'd love to know which effects you use for your synths. Do you use the same FX unit for all of your demos?

  • @Synthescheisser I use the Lexicon MPX for delay and reverb and the Dynacord VRS-23.

    thank you .)

  • the best is the OB-X than the OB-Xa and than the OB-8. OB-X is the fattest of all.

  • Ok, but it sounds and looks like you´re holding down a chord.

  • @HLontube

sorry no unisono also no layer.

  • I absolutely love this video!

  • @MichaelJHuman you have the wrong yamaha. The DX7 MK2 Can do incredible warm fat analogue type sounds. And futuristic sounds. As well as incomparable BASS and BELL tones. I will upload a demo in february called TIME TRAVELLER to show this. Its time to change a few minds on this digital Vs analogue argument. The DX7 MK2 at its second habd price and supreme reliability is the one to own. I aim to show that soon.

  • Did you use a negative Envelope parameter at the beginning? :) Loved the way it came in

  • Great Demo as usual... A+++

  • sound like Van Halen - 1984

  • I swear (and in spite of all my knowledge which tells me it should not be like this,) digital can't quite replace analog. I know it's a cliche, but I have a Yamaha Motif, and nothing on it sounds like this. You would think it's a simple matter of replicating the waveforms, modeling the filter, and perhaps adding in effects like out of tune oscillators and some analog noise, but I have not really heard it yet...

  • This is such a great sounding synth. Wow. Thx for the demo!
