  • I need serious help. My instrument is indeed IN NEED of fine tuners and the pegs are older, wooden. The instrument is chipped and the pegs are annoying me. They SLIP. It's not like "SUDDENLY OUT OF TUNE" It''s..."I'm trying to get these tuned but the pegs aren't working." My E string is gone because of it. Do you really know any BETTER music stores than Menchey? They swapped my VIOLIN bow for a cello one so I MIGHT have to pay for another one (teacher kindly swapped it)

  • @123naruhina First off, you can't play a violin with a cello bow. Length, weight, amount of hair -- everything is different. Your teacher SHOULD know this. I can't imagine a teacher doing this. I don't even know what state Menchey is in, so I can't help you there. You need a violin shop or a store that specializes in violins.

  • @blueiis2 I did play with a cello bow, believe me I actually did. Thanks :) The store that gave me the cello bow was Forte. I'm trying to find a new store ^^

  • @123naruhina I didn't mean you physically couldn't use the cello bow, I meant that you shouldn't. I guess I should have made that clear! Just for fun, I have played my fiddle with all kinds of things instead of bows -- including a toilet plunger. It doesn't make for very good tone, though! I'm glad you're looking for a new store.

  • Thanks for your instructions on peg problems. I am a really beginner and don't know anything about the violin. I just bought one today and have a hard time tuning my violin because of the slippage. Prior to watching this video, I thought the peg has to really be pushed through the peg box but its good that I haven't done that. One thing I have problem is that it's hard to turn the pegs. I thought putting the peg drops would loosen it a bit actually it made more harder to turn.

  • @rafaelg45 Yes, peg drops will make it harder to turn because it causes the wood to swell, which helps keep the pegs from slipping. You can use a different type of peg compound to help the pegs move smoother. The Hidersine peg compound that comes in a little round tin will help make them turn easier. You also may have to pull out on the peg slightly so that it's not pressed into the peghead so far. Once you get it in tune, you can press on the peg if it is slipping. I hope that helps!
