I've noticed European flagmen are the worst sobs ever, most the time they wave the flag after the leader has passed, I've seen them accidently heave the thing into the car, they are them most inept clumsy bastards I've ever seen, no flash or figure eight wave to keep the thing fluttering,. They flail away like drunks...hmmm, maybe that's it.
@IsaacBickerstaffEsq imagine the impact this had on me as I was a teenaged-car-guy livning in a stick-and-ball world. The MG recollection was too much to hope for as one of the cars later lived in the Binghamton, NY area where I grew up. I also was under the delusion he did some live in-car audio but that seems unlikely. Thanks, Joe Tierno
"remember him doing a live broadcast on Monitor radio around 1960?"
'59. He was driving a Lancia and made the broadcasts from the pits between his stints.
My step-father watched him drive the Little Le Mans at LRP. I don't think he's in any of the pictures he took though (dad was a SAAB man, Walter was in a Volvo).
I can't find it online, but I remember a picture of him in an Indy car having just turned a time that would have put him in the previous year's field.
I remember this video but forgot the Monaco portion. He raced a Lotus 11 at Lime Rock and Sebring. Does anybody remember him doing a live broadcast on Monitor radio around 1960? No one believes me when I tell them part of the broadcast was from one of the MGA team cars. Perhaps is was from his Lotus 11. Any comments? Thanks, Joe Tierno

Great footage. Seeing Cronkite driving a Healy in coat and tie is a time warp.

Without Walter Cronkite, the world is a lesser place.
