Giardia swimming-this one was a little misshapen as they usually are more of a perfect tear drop shape. From the fecal of a dog with diarrhea in NC.

  • How you get a so clean sample? I´m at home and want to make some tests too. But I just have the microscope, lamina and laminula. sorry, english is not my first language.

  • We got the sample from a dog with diarrhea. We place about a 1mm speck in a drop of saline with a sharp stick and mix. The key is to use a small enough speck of feces and gently mix it well in the saline. Hope that helps!

  • What are the other smaller things zipping around in there?

  • Little bastards. I somehow got giardiasis about 10 years ago. It was God awful. I couldn't even sleep at night because my stomach was so bloated with gas, I could not hold any food down, and I was shitting a bright-orange, very stinky, watery substance every 4 hours. I lost 18 pounds in one week. I don't remember what I was treated with - probably metronidazole (Flagyl).

  • what power were you using on the scope?

  • FYI...they don't have heads. Nice video, though. That swimming action is caused by the Posterior-Lateral flagella.
