  • i have the same victrola, victor of course, is this ben selvin? i mean he aslways used different names, thanks.

  • Moldroa, I don't think so. I believe the label information is legit. I'll ask a friend, as soon as I can, just to be sure. The VV-X is a fine little machine a real work horse. I have three of them. Glad you enjoyed the clip.

    Regards, J.

  • Love the bubbles-nice touch.I've never heard that version before. Very nice. Up the 'ammers.I love the old grammophones-so much character. It seems that with each new step in audio technology a little more character is lost- until you end up with todays ipods.nuff said.

  • Impbr, Thank you, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. There is a certain undefinable presence one gets listening to these acoustic machines and recordings in person that you don't get with electronic reproduction even though modern electronic reproduction gives you a greater range &c.

    Regards, J.

  • I have a super marimba piano roll of this song.

  • Mechmusicman, I'll bet that's a fun one! I'd love to hear that. Regards, J.

  • This brought back memories. My grandparents on my mother's side had this same Columbia recording inside their Victrola on the 2nd level of the barn that once stood behind their big home on the main street of Richland, PA. The barn-site is now a parking lot and their 1870-ish home is now a six-unit apartment house! Thanks for this posting, J.

  • Cute video.

  • where did you find this record

  • impbr: I've greatly enjoyed my iPods; they're a lot more portable than most talking machines, and you can carry a lot more music with you. Plus, if you make mp3 recordings of the talking machines, you can always take those with you. ;)

However, digital music players are a lot less permanent, and aren't as attractive to look at. Plus, they work quite well when the electricity is out. I'd be curious to see the day when an iPod is considered an antique, though.

    The bubbles were fun.

  • After reading Terry Pratchett's _A Hat Full of Sky_, I'm slightly disappointed that both recordings we did lack mice:

The mice did their best with I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles but it was easy to see that their minds weren't on it. Mice are highly strung and very temperamental.

The witches didn't seem to notice.

I had fun blowing the bubbles, though. ;)

  • G., I hope it brought back many happy memories. Thank you as always for your kind words. YF, J.
