  • Karen Poston, formerly of Dayton Ohio and a band called Aunt Beanie's First Prize Beets, wrote this song. A local public radio station had them in the studio to play it. Best version I've ever heard. Slaid does it pretty well on "Broke Down" I try to sing it sometimes myself. Very difficult to get through without getting choked up. Just a hauntingly beautiful song.

  • @steptorand And Karen's version has been released on what I believe is her only album, Real Bad. Fantastic album. Too bad I haven't heard anything more about her since she left Austin.

  • Classic - where can I hear that on a radio station? Thank goodness for YouTube. I'm off to buy this disc.

  • Last I heard Karen is living in Virginia.

  • So great....

  • one of the saddest songs ever written. "when she saw his father's boots, she knew.." makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. in a good way.

  • Thank you.

  • My all time fave, sounds mean on my mp3.
