Alan Watts (1915-1973) who held both a master's degree in theology and a doctorate of divinity, is best known as an interpreter of Zen Buddhism in particular, and Indian and Chinese philosophy in general. He authored more than 20 excellent books on the philosophy and psychology of religion, and lectured extensively, leaving behind a vast audio archive. With characteristic lucidity and humor Watts unravels the most obscure ontological and epistemological knots with the greatest of ease. - http://deoxy.org/watts.htm
"Inability to accept the mystic experience is more than an intellectual handicap. Lack of awareness of the basic unity of organism and environment is a serious and dangerous hallucination. For in a civilization equipped with immense technological power, the sense of alienation between man and nature leads to the use of technology in a hostile spirit---to the "conquest" of nature instead of intelligent co-operation with nature". • i love you mr watts

  • Interesting. What would thought really amount to if it be seized frozen for a moment ? If deprived of the opportunity to relate to the dynamic of change or development? can there be a 'unit' of thought ? what is thought anyway ? A dog chasing it's own tail surely :-)

Try 400mcg of LSD and perhaps you'll find out ;)

  • The "supposed thinker" (as we all are) is schizophrenic in nature.

  • to understand the words of Watts is equally awesome ... when more people walk in his path, then evolution is possible once more ... the modern day desire to find happiness in absence of cognition or superconsciousness must cease to be

  • Watts was and goes on as a genuine gift to this planet.
