It's a double-edged sword: people will wax poetic about the limitless, innumerable value of human life one moment, then turn around and make life decisions that put dollar figures over their heads the next. Universal healthcare is the perfect solution on paper; however, someone has to cash the blank check when the amount for care of the impoverished has been taken on. The American people can talk about compassion all they want...(cont'd.)

Yes, we tolerate the replacement value principle all the time outside the health insurance system. For example, coal miners are willing to risk their lives for slightly higher pay thereby placing a monetary value on their lives. Many people are willing to buy a used car without air bags thereby risking their lives to save a little money.

We all have to live within our budgets? Just because other people are paying for our needs does not mean we have unlimited access to their purses?
we'll see real improvement when they put their wallets behind it. I've already seen plenty of examples of people pledging involvement in a better good until they have to commit a serious monetary figure; the same apprehension applies here. We'd all love to see the sick cared for to a hospital's absolute best ability, but if it means higher taxes and insurance premiums, most are simply going to opt out...a sad reality about us.

If we lived in a Utopia where everyone had all the same advatages as the next person then car replacement would not be measured by income it would just be given. But since we don't it is neccesary to discriminate to where money spent will be best used.

This unlimited expense has to replenished somehow. This is done by the uncontrolled cost increase (example: higher insurance premiums, higher taxes, etc.).This then may be considered a curse for taxpayer, insured, etc.
