Louise died in March 2002 after an 18 month battle with cancer. During her illness, she spent a few days in Barretstown, where she had a most enjoyable time.
In 2009, Avonmore Milk launched its campaign, 'Big Picnic for Barretstown', as a way of raising funds for Barretstown. Two of Louise's friends - Deirdre and Sarah saw this as an ideal way to remember Louise, as she always enjoyed picnics, and at the same time raise funds for Barretstown. A big 'thank you' to, the 200 people who attended this year's picnic, the musicians and singers who entertained us, to those who were unable to attend, but gave a donation, and to Dunnes Stores, Portmarnock, who, once again, generously provided all the ingredients for the sandwiches. Last year's picnic raised €3800, and this year's picnic has raised €2970 for Barretstown. On a recent radio interview, a spokesperson for Barretstown said that it needs €100,000 per week to cover its costs and overheads.
If you would like to make a donation to Barretstown, please phone +353 45 864 115 or better still, organise your own picnic to raise much needed funds, visit their website for details - www.barretstown.org/default.asp - any donation will be most welcome and you will be helping very sick children have a great time and take their minds of their illness for a short time.
