It has been quite a while since we produced a video of the layout.

This is mainly due to the fact that we have been working at the London end of the layout and obviously do not like to run trains when there is dirty work being carried out. We also gave all the track a good clean over Easter using a combination of Goo Gone and Wahl Clipper Oil and, I must say, it has made a big difference to the smooth running of all the locos. Next we want to try cleaning all of the loco wheels with a technique that, again, uses the clipper oil.

Anyway, as for the video, this is a journey from Sueston to Davemoor with the Cumbrian Coast Express, pulled by 50007 "Sir Edward Elgar". We also see a sequence featuring, for the first time, our Class 17 - D8568 "Ribble Cement" running up the spur to the operating tipper and conveyor.

The London half of the layout is still being worked upon but is slowly coming together now. Most recently we have been working on the Brewery from where all the beer will, of course, be transported by train. The buildings are the Bachmann Oakhill Brewery set and excellent they are too.

For anyone interested, I have now created a web site for the layout at: www.lakelandrailway.co.uk.

I have also started a blog charting our progress, as well as, from time to time, looking at other model railway related items. To visit this please go to: http://lakelandrailway.blogspot.com/

  • where did u get the station, the one with the roof going over the railway

  • Hi edwardsweeney24, I am not sure to which one you are referring but the one at the beginning of the video is made up of Metcalfe station and platform kits while the one at the end is the latest Skaledale platform sections together with Metcalfe Island Platform buildings. All the rest are made up of the old Hornby plastic platform sections. Hope this helps!

  • really nice, i like how it went to different places

  • Hello itgamer100, thanks for your comment and, yes, we are fortunate to have enough space to allow us to do this.

  • @thoscar02 thanks that helps alot :)!! and by the way amazing layout! i wish my'n was like yours

  • The Class 50 is fitted with a Howes decoder although they have recently updated their 50 sound to what we have here in Elgar albeit there is not a great deal of difference. The Clayton, meanwhile, is fitted with Olivia's sound, which is the Rolls Royce variant and the only one available for a 17 at the moment. Hopefully, one day, someone will produce a Paxman version.

  • Sorry about that, meant to comment in the top box above.....bloomin You tube changing the page layout, wished they'd left it as it was before.Oh well. Cheers.
