In Gujarat and Rajasthan visitors and guests are greeted with a glass of water. This is a must.
Bhavnagar Gujarat, a traditional rainwater harvesting system in a courtyard house. Copper is used for the pipes and in the water cellar / sumpto keep the water clean and free from bacteria. The cover of the water cellar is also of gleaming copper. In a semi-arid area with uncertain rainfall water was precious and was harvested for every drop. A practice we need to revive in our modern times too,

where is the filtration before the water enters the cellar?

@rippergeo There is no filtration traditionally. At the roof there are diversion pipes when water is not to be harvested. After the roof is swept and washed clean, only then rainwater is allowed into the copper lined water cellar underground.
