Free Marketing Tip: Use Free Business Directory Listings

You can get directory listings for free.

You can use several, but here are a few to get you started:
1. Google Places
2. Yahoo Local
3. Bing Maps
Bonus: Manta.com (As of 12/5/11, these often rank really well.)

When you do these, follow these basic guidelines:
1. State Benefits: Do not just list product or service features. Not everyone knows and appreciates the technical details of your product like you do. Explain WHY your customer's life will be better, easier, cheaper, etc.
2. Use Keywords: Use Keywords in your Title and Description. You want to write so people will understand what you write, but you also need to write so that search engines know how to categorize your business listing.
3. Have Pictures: Use pictures of your business. If you do not have any of these, use pictures of things that relate to your business. Save the file in your computer with keywords as the filename.
4. Include Link to Main Site: Make sure that you use http:// in front of your website so that your site seems more popular.
Bonus: Respond to comments. When you respond to comments, show genuine concern--especially the negative ones--but also try to include some keyword phrases within your response. This will increase your chances of getting found by search engines.
