I wanted to do a track with polyphonic playing, poly vibrato (!), etc and this well-known (ahem!) piece seemed like a good fit for that... An imperfect performance but really fun to play! Check out the part near the end (2:05 & 2:15) when I get to bring out the other synth line just with poly pressure--Way cool!

Don't judge the sound of this incredible instrument by my camera's cheesy mic... It is gorgeous in person (or in a decent recording.)

Be sure to check out Lippold Haken's incredible instrument at hakenaudio.com

  • I can tell you that when I first had a piano sound up many years ago on a controller and added pitch bend and vibrato it didn't kill me... and I was thinking it might be a cool idea. But maybe that's just me you know... One man's meat is another man's poisson

  • I think of the Continuum and piano as complementary, not really as an alternative piano controller... The limitations of the piano (note bending, vibrato, sustain) aren't really limitations--That's one of the qualities that makes the piano what it is and within that idea it infinite (and infinitely thrilling!) So to me the idea of using the Continuum as a controller of a piano sound isn't immediately appealing... but what do I know! It may turn out to be a fantastic thing...

  • @5SunkenHeights5 Instruments are tools with specific applications. In the case of the continuum and the piano, comparing them would be like comparing bananas and plantains.

  • Very Trippy - Nice work..!!

  • Great idea!

  • Great work on this one.... you have been practicing.... :)

  • Hey Rob- Yes, that is exactly what my worry was: My imaginary "fretless piano" may be a whole lot more sublime in my imagination. Thanks for your thoughtful reply; I really appreciate it.

Keep the continuum uploads coming; they're great!

  • Nice! I love stuff like this. :)

  • Hi Rob-

Always looking out for new Continuum uploads to youtube so was very happy to discover your last two.

    Very nice, expressive playing!

I've been thinking about the Continuum for a long time, and have been wondering if it might be possible to use it for expressive piano playing. I saw that you are also an accomplished pianist so would love to hear what you think? Is a hammer action keyboard just more appropriate for sensitive piano work? Thanks!!
