Chanted by Byzantine Master and Professor of Byzantine Music Mr. George Papanikolaos from Samos, Greece.

(Psalm 135)
1st stichera: 1st Tone
O Give Thanks unto the Lord for he is
good Alleulia..for his mercy endureth forever Alleluia. Several verses are chanted in this tone and then it goes into: Plagal of 4th Tone...a few more verses then it goes into: Plagal of 2nd Tone...a few more verses, then it goes into Grave Tone....a few more verses, then it goes back to 1st tone...a few more verses until end.

The Entire psalm 135 is not chanted as this is the extended version and could take up to 1 hour chant in this fashion. This is usually chanted on Mount Athos during their all night vigils. I have condensed it to fit 10 mins.

No instruments are used when chanting byzantine music, only the human voice can be used and nothing else.

  • The Orthodox Christians are the only ones who move my soul.....I was brought up as a Scottish protestant but these people in Serbia and Greece make me feel more close to Christianity than anyone else. I think I must become Orthodox. I have no choice. They are the truth. They are the light, the way and the truth.

  • PeelTower... If you do, you will never go back. Every time I chant in an Orthodox service, or just listen to one, it gives me chills and makes me proud that I am a member of the oldest and the only true Church.

  • @psteele555 Actually I also used to be a Scottish Protestant, but then I became a Scottish Orthodox Christian. I've never looked back myself.

  • This reminds me of Islamic music.

I would have to get used to this.

  • IC XC- This is Crist's sing, these sing represents our bagging and our end ,in more accurate way he said : " I'am your begging and you'r end" .And now you know how God is powerful by telling you where begging and end of our planet.

    Bless The God

  • @vagos2006 This is so awesome. Can I download this somewhere?

  • @UA32 If Eastern Catholic Churches followed the Orthodox tradition, then they'd be Orthodox and not Catholic. They are very similar, sure, and far more similar than Western-rite Catholics, but they do not follow the Orthodox tradition. Sorry if that sounds nit-picky, but it's a very important distinction, and such distinctions should err on the side of 'nit-pickiness'.

  • @kesha1102 The actual words are more beautiful.

  • I'm not christian. And I think that this sounds so beautiful! <3

  • εξαίρετος !

  • I am a Greek Orthodox Christian attempting to learn as many verses of this psalm as possible. The other version by Mr. George Papanikolaos has more verses and the full text in Greek, I believe...

Anyway, the point is that I have transliterated the 25-verse version of this. If anyone would like a copy of the Greek with the transliterations underneath, please send me a private message and I would be glad to send you my version. You'll have to skip verses of the transliteration, but oh well...

  • I'm a evangelic christian and I love this song so much

God bless greece and the orthodox church
