Hyenas vs Lion, Masai Mara, Kenya.
The wounded lion has built up enough strength to take his kill elsewhere. This video gives a better angle to see the baby buffalo that he has killed. Our guide informed us that the lion will be trying to reach a more shaded area in preparation for the midday heat. The Hyenas are still very interested in trying to steal the kill off the lion but seem unsure of how to go about it.

  • I've been to Masai Mari too, a very beautiful place. Still i didn't see anything like this. Was this captured on film on the west side of the park? Just wondering

  • @awayness1 it was toward the south where the widebeest migration heads

  • Nice video--but how did the lion get injured??

  • @Bubuthemonkeyprince

We saw the hyenas heading toward the lion when we were quite far away from this so I am quite sure there was no fight between the hyenas and the lion before we got there. Its most likely that the lion was injured killing the buffalo. Its unusual for a male lion to be alone with no other sign of a pride around when he is under threat. Its likely that the lion is a loner and has therefore had to hunt alone making it more likely he will be injured.

  • Wow...I'm surprised to see hyenas getting this close to a male lion.

  • Yes, quite surprising, although they probley know thet are fairley safe unless they attack the lion. I have a video of lions hunting a porcupine that I will post later in the week....even stranger!!

  • Usually when you see lone male lions hunting like that they have been evicted from the pride. I assume he was most likely injured in a fight with another lion. A baby buffalo hunt would not have caused such damage. Hyenas are cowardly but also smart. He is trying to get it away from them. In his current state, he will tire quickly and be forced to either lay down and eat it or drop it and escape unharmed. He'd be wise to choose the latter, those hyenas are NOT going to let him eat the kill.

  • Whats up did the cameramans meter run out of money? some of the shots were rubbish too, waste of time

  • Be prepared.... For Scar and the hyenas...... ARE REAL!!!!!

  • @gjms30 NO MAN, THE HYENAS ARE NOT STUPID THEY ARE VERY INTELIGENT, WHY TRY TO TAKE THAT KILL??? THEY DON'T WANT TO RISK IT WITH THE LION IN FIGHT IT IS ABOUT AVOID INJURIES IN WILD NATURE MAN, IT'S NOT THAT THEY FEAR THAT LION THEY DON'T FEAR HIM, BUT THEY PREFER HIM TO GET TIRED OF WALKING WITH THAT WEIGHT, AND LEAVE THE KILL ALONE AND LEAVE. IF THE LION IS INTELIGENT, THAT HE IS WILL DO THAT. HE KNOWS HE LOST THAT DAY'S FOOD PLUS HE IS INJURED. HE HAS PROBLEMS

  • @mosul210 SURPRISED, WOW U' HAVEN'T SEEN MUCH NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE

  • i seriously need to visit south africa

  • @Junde801 yes a nice vid indeed
