Be sure to watch in HD for the best possible experience! This is my first short production using my new Sony HDR-XR200V AVCHD Handycam camcorder. Although this advertisement may seem inexpensive, in order for my MacBook to be able to finely edit this substantially dense High Definition format on Final Cut Express, I had to quadruple its RAM, therefore ending up with a whopping 4 Gigabytes! That definitely doesn't come cheap, not to mention the camera itself (dare I say it, about $1000)! Be sure to leave some feedback, and Subscribe for more! Enjoy!

  • lol pretty funny!

I have a question about Final Cut Express--- I am about to buy the Sony HDR-XR500V, and i have the final cut express program. however, i have been unable to use the editing software with my current camera, some JVC Everio low-grade thing. It appears that Final Cut can never find the camera when it is plugged into the Mac. Is there something i can do to make this easier? or will the Sony camera be immediately recognized by final cut?

  • I'm not too sure about your Everio situation, but rest assured, all Macs and Final Cut Express/Pro will recognize the camera once it's connected as an external drive. You'll see an icon on your desktop titled "NONAME", I believe. To access and edit, simply open Final Cut Express, go to File-Log And Transfer, and you'll be ready to go.

  • A word of advice, make sure your Mac has an Intel Processor and at least four Gigabytes of RAM, I'm not so sure about two, but one is definitely out of the question (I know from experience)! Four or more will definitely guarantee a seamless workflow in my opinion! Good luck!

  • Hey Chris, nice acting buddy. ROFL, wtf were you looking at on the iPod?

  • The FML (FMyLife) app. It's hilarious!

  • Thanks guys, i'll look into it!

keep up the good work Christian!

  • Yeah, you should get the newest version of FCP. I think it's 7.

  • Actually, Final Cut Express 4 IS the version supporting AVCHD and most other camcorders... You might want to check for updates!

  • Yes!! That is exactly what i have to do and it has been a complete pain in the ass so i havent been able to use the software. I have Final Cut Express 4, is that the problem?

  • If it's the latest version of Final Cut then it should recognize the camera, if not, then you'll have to upload the footage into the latest version of iMovie then export the video files as quicktime then import it into final cut, but then every-time you move the footage on the timeline you'll have to render it.
