Donahue's oil argument is flawed on so many levels. First off, we don't have a free market, secondly, the price of oil is largely set by taxes levied by governments, less so by the actual cost per barrel, even though that's also a factor. But the average government more than doubles the actual price of gas, which is why there is a great variance in the price of oil across the globe. If a barrel trades for a set price, shouldn't gas cost about the same everywhere?

So you retract this misrepresentation? I think you're looking at it from the wrong angle, as a "damn the unfortunate" kind of philosophy. Consider that the alternative to free association (choosing to help someone or not) is the initiation of physical force. If you worry about charity not being enough, think how much more money we'd have to be generous with if not for taxes.
