Altoona police say a dangerous dog attacked a little girl in the city this week.
Police say a pit bull attacked a three year old girl and actually ripped a chunk out of the girl's leg during the attack.
It happened Monday afternoon in the 600 block of 32nd Street in Altoona, but police are just now releasing the details.
They say the little girl and her parents were leaving their home and going to their car, when Sherri Manker's pit bull ran out and attacked the little girl. The dog actually ripped a part of the girls thigh off, dropped it on the ground and kept going after the girl. The girls parents tried to fight the dog off and eventually were able to. During that the dog also attacked the mother.
The parents rushed the girl to the hospital where she went into surgery. The mother was also treated for several bite wounds.
The dog was immediately quarantined, tested, and put to sleep.
Police say Manker didn't have a license for the dog and never got it vaccinated. Fortunately, the dog tested negative for rabies.
Manker now faces charges of Reckless Endangerment, Attacks by Dangerous Dogs, and several others. Those are all misdemeanors. Shell receive a copy of the charges in the mail.
